The other day, i saw the neatest project by Sophie Calle, at the Geffen downtown. She wrote a romantic passage recounting her day, from start to finish. The particular day she recounts, is one where she has hired a private investigator to follow her. Unbeknownst to him, she is both the client and subject of his investigation. In the passage, she explains that she is taking "him" through her routine in order to share her life with "him". After the passage, there is a series of photographs (assumed to be taken by "him") that document the day he follows "her". Next to each of his photos, are passages written by "him", narrating her day in a very sterile and concise format.
One of the coolest parts of this project was that the contrasting stories, seemingly identical records of where she went and when she went, finished her day very differently.
